So, big news in the beauty world… Liz Earle, creators of the infamous Cleanse and Polish system… have branched out into the world of colour cosmetics. Exciting times!
I was lucky to have a little peek at the range at the John Lewis Beauty Hall launch and the first products that really caught my eye were the gorgeous blushers – available in both a cream and a powder formula for each shade. Such a nice touch, and not something I’ve seen a brand do before – I was immediately drawn to the shade ‘Nectar’, a corally-pink shade.
It looks more coral pink in the pan than it does on the skin – the pink shades show through brighter when swatched. The finish is nicely satin so skin has a glow, but not shimmer. It’s nicely pigmented and a pretty colour. Overall – I’m impressed.
Next up from the goodies from the new range I’ve been playing with is the combination of Smudge Proof Mascara and Lash Care Mascara Base. The Mascara Base is designed to condition lashes, and help create a base for the mascara – essentially promising a better finish and longer lasting look when using the base. To be honest, I’m not likely to use this all that much, although I did like the finish – purely because I don’t think when I’m getting ready in the morning that I will genuinely add in an extra step to make my lashes look better. I’m too impatient. It’s perhaps something I’ll save for weekends when I have a bit more time on my hands.
But that being said, I’m loving the mascara – the wand is ideal for my tastes. A fluffy wand (as opposed to a comb style one) and big, but not so big you get mascara all over your lid and poke yourself in the eye. I do find the formula takes some building, but leaves a natural effect, that’s still on the dramatic side – if that’s not a total contradiction. I find my lashes look long and thick, but not bordering on false…. but make up your own mind when you see the before/after pictures!
My first impressions of the Liz Earle colour range are really good – all the products are impressive quality, with the only thing I’m being picky about is that I’m not likely to use the Mascara Base in my daily routine. But the mascara and the blusher are fab and definitely going to be in regular use for me!
