The battle of the Christmas TV ads!

As much as I try to at least resist until it’s the actual *month* of Christmas…the world around me seems to have different ideas. It’s already becoming Christmas overload… the lights are on and the Christmas ads are on the TV. So I wanted to do a little round-up/review of this years Christmas TV ads from some of the main UK retailers… John Lewis, Debenhams, M&S & Boots… you can watch each of the ads below and then see what my thoughts are at the bottom!

John Lewis

After last years epic ad with the little boy counting down to Christmas (seriously, how cute?) there were high expectations for this year’s offering. I have to say I do like it, but the song feels a little too sad/emotional. I know Christmas can be an emotional time – but it would be nice to be a little more on the jolly side. But overall, really sweet and romantic.

I think this is becoming my favourite. It basically captures what I wish Christmas was like.., a little bit magical and sparkly and all about that journey home. I’m now dreaming of cosy country cottages and a ¬†snow covered Christmas day.

Not my favourite of the bunch – I liked the first bit, but then the jumble of songs or ‘mash up’ as the kids would call it nowadays… just doesn’t work for me. But do have to say it takes a lot to beat a pair of M&S PJ’s on Christmas day.

Another TV ad that comes with quite high expectations. I’m not loving this one as much as previous years – I think they’re attempting the touching/meaningful side, but I feel some of it falls a but on the sad side? Whereas I actually loved last year’s funny one all about the women sorting Christmas. On a side note, I loved their Autumn one… where the women all get excited for the end of Summer. Totally with them there.

At the end of the day… you can’t beat that familiar jingle of ‘Holidays are coming’ with the bright red coca-cola trucks… it’s not Christmas until I have seen that one!

What do you think of this year’s Christmas ads? What kicks of that festive feeling for you?
