Who am I kidding, it’s not Spring – but there’s something about freezing snow, followed by a mild day to make me imagine that I have fast forwarded through winter and it’s now Spring time and new season = new beauty goodies to play with! Plus a whole new wardrobe of shades – gone are the deep berry shades and plum colours…. and hello to corals, pinks and pretty nudes!
So here are five picks of mine for new season lip colours:
|L-R: Bourjois, Burberry, YSL, Avon, Laura Mercier|
Starting from the top, or the left…depending on which picture you’re looking at we have Bourjois Rouge Edition Shade 10 – which I’ve already blogged about a couple of times as I’ve totally fallen for this slightly orange toned bright red. I love it – it’s a classic red but with a little bit of an edge and is flattering on paler skins – so post winter, pre Summer this is ideal.
Along the same lines, I have this pretty gloss from Burberry Make-up – Spring and Summer are all about coral. If there is one colour to take you through the warmer seasons this has to be it. This Burberry Lip Glow gloss is sheer and glossy, but still with enough pigment to add colour. This is one that will look better and better with a growing tan.
What’s Spring without a little pink pop – this is the gorgeous YSL Volupte Sheer Candy in shade 12. It applies a little paler than it looks in the bullet and has a gorgeous sheer gloss to it – as easy colour to wear. I love a bit of a pink lip – this is on the right side of perky without being too sickly sweet.
Next there’s the predictable inclusion of a nude shade – this is Avon’s Perfect Kiss lipstick in ‘Natural Glow’ – a creamy nude that’s moisturising and sheer but with a hint of colour. If you’re suffering from chapped lips post winter, then this is a perfect spring pick as it ads a hint of colour – but also with a bit of moisture but without highlight flaws like some of the brighter colours have a tendency to do.
Last but by no means least is something a little different to my usual taste, but a really universally flattering lip colour. This Laura Mercier shade is called Cream Coral and is described as a tawny peach – when it swatches it’s got a bit of a rich rosy shade to it but with just enough peach to keep it on the flattering side. I love this for adding warmth to the face, when paired with an equally flattering warm peachy blusher.
So these are my five picks for new season, Spring lip colours. What are yours?
