Models Own have had a bit of a flurry of new (and sparkly) products to hit their shelves recently – one of which is this rather mean and moody, but glam collection called ‘Velvet Goth’. Basically meaning matte versions of jewel toned glitter shades – with really rich and shimmering shades of green, red and blue. There are a couple of other shades in the collection but for the sake of looking at the ones I have been playing with.
The swatches above show you one coat and two coats of each of the three shades – so you can see how each shade covers on application. Over other shades each would work well, but on their own two shades look pretty good on their own with the ‘Absinthe’ (the green) looking the strongest after one single coat.
The ruby red shade, ‘Sardonyx’ is a rich red that manages to sparkle without being in your face. The matte finish can always be glossed over to give it a shine.
Then there’s the gorgeous ‘Valarian’ – a rich navy blue. This is my favourite of this trio – purely because I love a good blue polish. This will make a great pair for an accent nail with navy nails and the pop of subtle sparkle on one.
I guess liking this collection will all come down to your opinion on matte finish polishes to be honest. Love them, you will love this – hate them, then you either will skip this or perhaps add a glossy top coat.

I really love the look of Absinthe.
I think it would be fab for a nail colour with a Halloween witch outfit!
I saw these in town today, I loved the Sardonyx one! Will definitely need to be purchasing these soon 🙂 xx
I absolutely love them, and will add a few more shades to my collection! Xx

I actually picked a couple of these up the other day, even though I didn’t really love them when I saw them on a couple of blogs. They’re a lot nicer and easier to work with than I expected, and I know I’l get a lot of use out of them in the festive months!

They’re definitely easier to work with than most glitters!
Ooooh I love this collection much more than the sparkly (fireworks) ones! Valerian is probably my fave.
Really liking the look of these 🙂
