Bobbi Brown Gel Sparkle Shadow & Liner

Bobbi Brown is definitely one of my all time favourite brands. There’s so many staples from the core range that are in my day to day use make-up bag year round (Peony blush for one…) and time after time I am suckered in hook line and sinker for their new collections. But sparkle gel shadows? Hmm..not my thing on the surface of it. But just you wait… these Bobbi Brown Gel Sparkle Shadow shades are gorgeous. With Christmas approaching faster than it should… these are on my radar for a bit of festive sparkle, plus they’re actually a lot more wearable than you would assume for anything with the word sparkle in there.

There are five shades in the new range – currently exclusive to House of Fraser – with a blend of deep jewel tones for a sultry sparkle, plus some nice neutrals with a taupe and a bronze shade in there (my faves…obviously…). Along with the shadow/liners (they can be used as shadows OR as liners) there’s also the nifty little brush that is a really handy tool for applying these as it gives you the wider brush if you want a shadow look, plus the narrow one that slots away to keep it nice and hygienic.

The five shades, as show below are – top row: Sunlit Bronze, Thunderstorm and night sky. Bottom row: Midnight Forest, Smokey Topaz.

Each swatch is shown applied dry using my finger (not the brush) to show now smoothly the pigment applies sans-tools. I’m definitely more of a finger application sort of girl myself and these would work like a dream for a bit of a sexy/smudgy/sparkly smokey eye.. You can of course combine shades to get the final effect you want too. Shade wise, of course my top picks are Smokey Topaz (the taupe shades) and Sunlit Bronze (the rich bronze) as they’re both the most wearable in my opinion. Also, I should say that the sparkle is a really fine line between shimmer and sparkle – on the swatches it leans towards the shimmer side of the ‘glitz’ spectrum – but on the eye the sparkle does come through a little more as it tends to disperse as part of the blending – so the colour will blend out and a fine smattering of sparkle will be left behind in it’s place.

As I mentioned above – the Bobbi Brown Gel Sparkle Shadow * range is currently exclusive to House of Fraser (£20 each)
