Chuan Spa at the Langham Hotel ~ lastminute.com Spa-tacular {Spa}

Chuan Spa The Langham

I do love a bit of pampering and have loved to go to salons and spas since I was a teenager. So any chance I get to go and visit one for an hour or two of zoned-out bliss I will jump at the chance. One I hadn’t visited until recently was the Chuan Spa at The Langham Hotel at the top of Regent’s Street. The Langham is a bit of an icon at the top of London’s famous shopping street – at the top end of Regent’s street where fewer people venture for retail therapy but a stones throw from all the buzz.

The spa entrance is on the Regent Street side and from the outside it’s a pretty doorway but really doesn’t portray the Tardis-like interior! I wasn’t expecting it to look and feel as grand inside. Which is frankly a bit silly having seen the inside of the hotel, I should have anticipated that the spa would be every bit as luxurious. I was there to experience one of the spa’s signature treatments to celebrate a pretty exciting (if you love a good spa sesh like I do) two week Spa-tacular (see what they did there) event with lastminute.com

The two week spa event basically means that they have a tonne of amazing spa deals and offers – including treatments from just a tenner, Spa days from £25 and Spa breaks for £60. Almost unbelievably including amazing spas such as the Chuan Spa! IMG_3155

The welcome and service in the spa was really lovely – I’ve been to a few spas where the staff are quite snooty and unfriendly. But this is not the case here at all, they were welcoming, friendly and showed me around the full facility. Something I think can be really appreciated – especially when it’s your first time somewhere as it’s all too easy to feel a little lost and intimidated. My therapist was fab too – my treatment was in the VIP suite, which was pretty spectacular. Probably bigger than my entire London flat, and about a million times more glam. She talked me through the treatment and made sure to customise it to my needs. In fact, I had originally booked in for their Black Diamond Facial, but on the day they very really lovely and accommodating and switched so I could experience the Chuan Harmony Massage (three weeks of moving stress, packing and lifting/moving furniture meant this was very, VERY much appreciated).

The therapist talked me through the treatment in advance but then just got on with it silently so I could zone out. And zone out I certainly did! It was so relaxing I felt I was on another planet. The pressure is generally light to medium rather than firm – which is a bit of a change for me as recently I’ve opted to always go with firm pressure or massages that ‘actually ‘do’ something’. But this was the perfect reminder that actually an hour of time dedicated to purely chilling out is just amazing – as I left feeling relaxed and rejuvenated rather than pummelled and sore. The oils they used for the treatment are all chosen as inspired by Chinese medicine – so you smell them and the one you are drawn to is believed to represent the ‘element’ you’re missing. I was torn between the ‘Wood’ and ‘Fire’ elements – and eneded up opting for fire.

The massage isn’t just about gentle/relaxing all over though, the therapist customises the treatment (goes ‘freestyle’ as she called it) on the back area to allow time to get knots out and cover off the whole ‘massage that does something’ need I mentioned before. This together really did make a perfect combination. It was topped off with a little chill time post treatment in the relaxation area. Plus of course theres the option of pampering the day away in the facilities that seem endless as you further and further into the spa. The pool area in particular was really impressive.

Also, and I always think this is the sign of a good spa – the changing rooms were lovely and well equipped. It can be a bit of a let down when you go to a spa where the facilities are lovely, but the changing room is like the ones I remember from the local leisure centre as a kid.
