So this time last month I was having a wonderful time enjoying the intense Caribbean sun in gorgeous Antigua. Taking a week away from the day to day life of blogging etc to just really relax and recharge. An all inclusive resort is the perfect place to do this – I have a few thoughts on all inclusive holidays that I’m going to save for a separate post. But for this one I wanted to share a few of my favourite snaps from St James Club & Villas in Antigua from our week there.
St James Club is a 4 star resort that’s around half an hour’s drive from the airport, through the Antigua countryside which is dotted with candy coloured homes and glimpses of the turquoise sea. When you get to St James Club you get a pretty spectacular view of the resort from the drive down to the peninsular position. So you can see the turquoise sea and the calm lagoon side either side of the resort.
This was one of the things that struck me about the resort – the positioning of it was just gorgeous. Meaning you had a huge choice of where you wanted to spend your time. From one side you can enjoy the Caribbean sea views, from the other the stunning calm lagoon.
Alongside the sea/lagoon choice there’s a number of pools to choose from. Rather than one or two large ones there were lots of smaller pool areas dotted around the resort. I really liked this approach – having been to a few different all inclusive type resorts that generally have a couple of large pools – they can get crowded and often have a lot of that ‘reserving’ of sun beds situations. We found, that because there were so many different options to base yourself for the day. Our favourite spot was a small pool with a handful of sun beds around it that overlooked the lagoon. It was a perfect spot – shaded, next to a pool and stunning views (and not far from a bar).
There’s a whole load of options of things to do at St James Club. From the fitness centre, spa, various water sports to the resort’s Catamaran that takes regular sails around the island. I’ll be honest – we opted to do pretty much nothing for the whole time. Bar enjoy the sun, opportunity to relax and take a breather from the internet world to recharge and spark a few ideas. If you’re looking for a beautiful, relaxing escape with all but guaranteed sunshine (in the week we were there it was mid 30’s every day with only one rain shower) then St James Club Antigua is a perfect choice. We flew with Virgin Atlantic (via Tropical Sky) and were on an all inclusive basis. We were in a Royal Suite room overlooking the lagoon, which was absolutely lovely as we could watch the sunset from our balcony every evening.
The resort has a number of dining options too – so no risk of getting bored of the food on offer over your holiday. The casual Docksider Grill that was close to our room was one of our favourites because it was both relaxed and a gorgeous overlooking the lagoon setting. There’s also the fine dining Italian Picolo Mondo that we saved for our final night and was just lovely. In a slightly raised position so we looked down over a cascading series of pools and the lagoon whilst enjoying a lovely dinner of wonderful Italian food. There’s also the Rainbow Grill that offers a buffet option for breakfast and lunch then a la carte for dinner. Then there’s Coco Beach that overlooks the sea. So plenty of options for variety through your stay.
On one night there was a full moon party on the lagoon beach which was great – with BBQ Jerk Chicken, rum cocktails and caribbean dancing. A flavour of exactly what you go to Antigua for. If there happens to be a beach party when you go – do it. A great atmosphere and amazing selection of food.
Hopefully that and this selection of snaps gives you a bit of an over view of our week at St James Club, Antigua. We really did have the most relaxing time – it was just what the doctor ordered. So thank you to Tropical Sky and St James Club for having us.
