I started this post initially by writing a long winded explanation about this post and realising that probably isn’t necessary. It’s sort of obvious from the title… these are some first impressions of some products I’ve been testing for the past week. Simple. I figured it would be a nice way to sum up products I’ve been playing with recently (with ambitions of making it a weekly thing). So I can share my first thoughts on if they’re any good and if they might be staying in the routine or maybe not making the cut. So here we go…
I haven’t tried much from Fresh but if this is anything to go by I need to try more. This is a gel like cleanser that works on face and eyes (plus points for this) and feels like a gel but then sort of melts into a creamy cleanser. It rinses off fairly easily – even more so with a flannel or muslin cloth. This one will be staying around for sure – it’s great at balancing the fine line between taking make-up off but not stripping the skin of all moisture.
Cult 51 Immediate Effect Serum*
I initially assumed this was an all over serum but it’s only on reading the application guide that it tells you to apply to the eye area. But does say can be used on other areas too. It’s a little confusing to be honest – is it for eyes or is it for all over?! Or both?! If both then that’s ace. The confusion comes from first the name, then the initial intro to the product on the packaging is vague enough that I wouldn’t assume it was an eye product until I got to the bit about application that says apply to eye area. But then it does also say you can use it elsewhere. Who knows. I use it on my eyes but do like the texture so have been popping it all over a little too. The texture is really lovely – it’s a sort of thick serum but it’s light and hydrating and it does feel like it does have an immediate effect on the skin. Confusion aside, first impressions really good on this one but will see how it goes after a few weeks of use before I give it a full review treatment.
Living Proof Perfect Hair Day 5 in 1 Styling Treatment
I picked this up last time I was in America as had heard amazing things. I love this on first blow dry – it leaves hair feeling light and smooth. Styled without feeling weighed down. But I feel like I want to find whatever the secret is to make it last the second day – for day one hair, love it. But I feel like on the second day I lose it a bit and the light/volume gets lost a bit.
NIOD Multi Mollecular Hyularonic Complex*
I started using this when I read the Cult 51 was for the eyes – it’s a hyularonic watery serum that’s designed to help add moisture to the skin and keep it there. It feels instantly hydrating and very light. The smell is a little unusual I can’t put my finger on what it is. I like it as a pre-moisturiser and feel like this will be one that will impress me more with time.
Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Cream*
I reached for this when I just wanted a good all rounder moisturiser for my dry skin. I’ve used the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion before, but this is the thicker, cream formula. I already like it more than the lotion version – it feels light but somehow like it’s working more than the original version. A good all round moisturiser so far – so if you just want something that really just keeps skin soft without any fuss then this is a good option!
Neutrogena Hydra Boost Gel Cream Eye
I picked this up as it was something recommended as a drugstore purchase in America. All signs point to it being one I would love. But so far I haven’t been wowed. It does feel lovely to use, but the effect just doesn’t last. It’s refreshing and gives instant hydration, but I find an hour or two later the eye area feels dry again. So far, not too impressed so not sure I’ll stick with it when I have better options.
