Testing: First Impressions #2

So last week I shared a few new skin and hair products I’d been testing that week along with first impressions of them so far. This week I have a few pampering type products I wanted to share my initial thoughts on. I find this is a good way to do some faster updates on what I’ve been trying rather than potentially waiting for a full review, or if there are products I sometimes try but don’t wow me enough to warrant a first post then a little testing post helps get my thoughts out there in case you’re considering a purchase or want to know if fuss around a new launch is justified.

pampering

This week I’ve been trying out a few pampering treats, blaming the chilly weather for my desire to hibernate and take hot baths as often as is reasonably possible!

Ameliorate Bathing Powder * (£23.50)

I’m a huge fan of the Ameliorate range as it’s one of very few body products I’ve tried in my life that has actually made a difference to the KP (Keratosis Pilaris) I tend to suffer from on my upper arms. So the latest launch is like a winter edition… except it’s not seasonal, it’s permanent! This is a bath powder that has a whole load of ingredients to combine to make skin soft and smooth from just a relaxing soak. This is great if you do suffer from KP (like I do) as scrubbing – which seems like the most logical thing to do for rough skin – can often be the worst thing to do!

Estee Lauder Night Wear Plus Detox Mask * (£32)

When it comes to skincare, I absolutely love Estee Lauder Advance Night Repair – it’s one of my all time favourites. But I haven’t tried many masks from the brand at all so was really excited to try this out. First impressions wise I like that it’s a quick use one – only takes three minutes if you’re tight on time. It does ‘dry’ but then isn’t a pain to remove as a lot of detox masks are that seem to ‘set’ harder than concrete. I found on first use my skin felt clean but not stripped/tight. Going to give this a couple more tries before I form full opinion – but initial thoughts are thumbs up.

Dr Hauschka Spruce Warming Bath Essence * (£9.50)

This one was instant love and made me immediately wish I had a bigger bottle. It smells dreamy – sort of like the fresh pine Christmas scent. But with something cosy and warm feeling in there too. It just smells SO good. My new ultimate bath combo is this plus the Ameliorate powder – HELLO soft skin and a gorgeously scented bath experience. This is a seasonal product though, so if you want to try get your mitts on it ASAP. I want to stock up as I’m almost already out of this 30ml bottle – it’s one where you only really need a couple of cap-fulls to get the effect, but it smells so amazing it’s hard to resist pouring more in. LOVE this.

Origins Gloomaway Grapefruit Body Buffing Cleanser * (£22)

Along with all the pampering, I made myself a ‘feel good’ list of majority pampering/beauty things that when I tick them all off I am pretty much guaranteed to feel good about myself. One of which being a full body scrub – I just love that freshly scrubbed feeling where all the dead skin is sloughed off and everything feels soft and smooth. So I reached for this one and it does smell delicious – and the name is just perfect for January gloom – Gloomaway, yes please. BE GONE GLOOM. AND TAKE ALL MY DRY DEAD SKIN WITH YOU. My tip with this is to actually apply in the shower, but before you step under the running water (or before you turn it on) so you can have a good scrub before it all gets rinsed away.  I do love a good body scrub and this is definitely one.

Here’s to the weekend ahead with LOADS of end of January pampering time on the cards!

Considering EL’s DayWear Plus is a bit like a tinted moisturiser, I was half expecting the NightWear Plus to be something similar, for anyone who doesn’t like to be bare-faced in bed haha! I’ve heard so many great things about Ameliorate, so I’m intrigued by the bathing powder.
